Guge plans to enlarge the number of engineers , recruiting stuffs from Baidu

It is reported by overseas media that Google will double the number of Chinese engineers to improve the business in China.

Kaifu Lee, the president of Google in China region, said in an press last friday that the company will rise the number of engineers to 200 or 300 in a year.Till now, there are totally over 100 engineers in guge. Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, also said last April that the Beijing-based development center will employ thousands people to provide new type services for Chinese 137million netizens. In January, Google release such services as Internet map and datagrid with the expect to occupy more market share from Baidu.


Florian Pihs, the assistant VP of Analysys International, a market research company, said last Friday:"Google begins to hunt people from competitor, Baidu. But Google faces the fierce competition from Microsoft and so on". Analysys International has ever researched and investigated the situation of the employment of engineers by foreign enterprises.

Last Friday, Kaifu Lee claimed that Google prepares for building a research and development center this summer in Shanghai. But he did not report more detailed things.Meanwhile, he said that Google will officially put forward the news about the Shanghai-based research and development center in the coming several weeks.

According to the data by Analysys International, in the 4th quarter of 2006, the search engine market share of Google was 17% in China, higher than last quarter to 16%.At the same time, the market share of Baidu also rose 57% to 58%, while Yahoo stopped at 13%.Kaifu Lee said that Google had began to provide the Chinese book search service from last Friday. In December of past year, Google set up the partnership with China Mobile, servicing Chinese mobile users for searching.
