Communication blow as quakes hit Taiwan

China was thrown into communication havoc yesterday in the wake of Tuesday night's earthquakes which rocked Taiwan on the second anniversary of the tsunami tragedy in southern Asia.

The quakes, which killed two people ,injured 42, and damaged undersea cables, cut off most Chinese mainlanders from access to overseas websites and international calls.

Experts said it will take up to three weeks to repair the cables.

China Telecom and China Netcom said they have started to launch low speed backup network connection systems in the interim.

The earthquakes also disrupted telecommunication in Taiwan, and other parts of Asia.

Lin Jen-hung ,vice general manager of Chunghwa Telecom Co. ,Taiwan's largest phone company, said that the quakes closed 98 percent of Taiwan's communications capacity with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong.

China Telecom said at least six of its cable in the sea south of Taiwan had been cut, affecting telecommunications between the mainland, Taiwan ,the United States and Europe.

Local earthquake experts said there would be aftershocks measuring above five on the Richter scale over the coming week.

People cannot visit most English language websites, including yahoo.com and eBay.com.

Also out are Microsoft's e-mail service hotmail.com, and MSN.

International fixed-line phones were affected by the quakes, which had their epicenter 15 kilometers south of Taiwan and hit at 8:26pm and 8:34pm.

We are trying to use other channels, such as renting satellites and overseas carrier;s cables to resume connection as soon as possible",said China Telecom.

It will take some time to finish the repairs said an unidentified source at the China Submarine Cable Construction Co. , which is in charge of building and maintenance of the cables.

CCTV reported yesterday that the repair will take 3 weeks.

More than 97 percent of Netizens said they were affected, according to an online survey of 35,000 participants conducted by sina.com

The shocks were also felt in several cities in Guangdong and Fujian provinces and in Hong Hong.

Festival Celebration

How do people celebrate in China?

Personally speaking, the festival which people celebrate on can be divided into two kinds.

One is western festival, such as Christmas Day, young people especially will have a good time at the day.The will invite fridengs to have a party or do other activities. The way of celebrating is, I think, the same as the westener.

The other sort is traditional festival, such as Spring Festival,Autumn moon day.All eople will celebrate these days including the old and young. The key point that family member will gather from othe places to have a dinner. It symbols the family reunion with everyone sitting around the table and tasting delicious food. Eveyone feel happiness. Members of the big family feel good about it.

The photo fo the Spring Festival:

in the past, people weren't very rich. So they will expect the Spring Festival coming to eat a lot of food.
Now the photo is taken by a common Chinese person.

In some modern cities,Beijing,Shanghai,Guangzhou, u will see the fireworks in festival.

with the modernation of the cities, some small towns in the remote area are still maintaining the traditional features.
The photo displays the red commodities hanging on the shelf are plastic crafts. You can put a candle inside it.And
the light will spread through red transparent plastic.Vey nice~~~~~

How to sell items on Web in China?

In China, if u wanna sell some items, many persons will choose taobao to login their communities.
The platform is similar with eBay in U.S.
u can sell whatever u want,of coure, u can also buy whatever u want with the basis of the license.
Now taobao claims that there a totally 600million items covering all catgories in taobao.
That's a huge number.Unbelieveable!

It is said that the maket share of taobao is 66% when the eBay in China has only taken 30%.
If u look back in the 2000, the situation has changed a lot.
At that time, the maket share of eachnet which was acquired by eBay was the No.1 in the e-commerance.

The mountain city--Chongqing

Chongqing is one of four municipalities in China, other three are Beijing Shanghai and Tianjin.
It's a very beautiful city.
u can see a lot of mountains around the city just like a bowl.
Especially, ladies in Chongqing is also smart and lovely.
In China, Dalian and Chongqing are considered the most beautiful-women cities.
Addition, people in Chongqin like spicy.
Some of my friends from Chongqin told me that eating spicy is good for skin.
I don't know that, but my friend's skin is really smooth. envy~~~~~~~~~:)

some thought about the top 500 companies

Many students near me now wanna go into the company.
The reason? u can list a lot.
One fo them, I think, is the honor if u can work for a top500 company.
Your families, friends or other people will respect and be proud of your job.
Entering the big firm means that your ability has been cerified.
You prove yourself out of hundreds of person.
That's not easy.

Another reason maybe the salary. Top500 company can offer u a better salay.
You stay at the office in some CBD with the 5000RMB per month.
Some young people dream of such style of work and life.

eh....I think there r a lot of other reasons for the situation.
But the research need more people participating the orgnization.

The best instant message tool in China: OICQ

Today, let us talking about the OICQ(it's usually called "QQ" maybe for the convenience of the pronounciation.).

Overall
In November 1998, Tencent is founded in Shengzhen. Tencent's message service platform,"QQ",was formally launched in Feb ,1999.
After years of the strong business, QQ has became the NO.1 in IM field. The market share of the QQ is about 70%. MSN,operated by Microsoft,
take the No.2 list with about 10% market share. On July 16, 2004, Tencent Holdings Limited (SEHK 700) went public on the main board of Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

QQ(download)
Personally, I think that QQ copied a lot from the ICQ in the early stage.
But now, QQ has developed some features of his own including pet-feed, music search, e-commerce, news and so on.
The services which QQ offers meet a lot of people.
At present, besides sending message, u can also play online relaxing game with friends, go auction, watch onlie TV fruently and write posts.
Maybe, only QQ can integrate all the services into the platform with a large number of users.
Now matter portal website or Web2.0 company, they r jealous of the advantage which QQ has.
At the same time, some people also critize QQ for their copying service model from other companies.

The Shanghai Railway Station

Overview:
I wanna show u the Shanghai Railway Station.
The Shanghai Railway Station is very important for the traffic. Everyday, there r a lot of trains coming and leaving here.
Also, people from the different provinces of the China are gathering here.
So, u can see crowded people in the railway station square.

Traffic:
u can take either bus or metro to arrive there. The Shanghai Railway Station is called "上海火车站" in Chinese.
Generally speaking, I prefer to selecting the metro for its convenience.
Now, metro1,3,4 all pass the Shanghai Railway Station. When u arrive the destination, there r voice guidance reminding u in the train.

Tips:
http://www.huoche.com.cn/
The website list the timetable. It can tell u the timetable of the train u wanna know. Great.

Cost:
Taking the train is cheap for a student like me.
For example, if u wanna go to Hangzhou, u will cost only 30RMB(4.00 dollars). On the controry, the price of the taking bus will be the twice.

Today, I met Keso, whose blog I really like.
I communicated with him about his career, attitude to the life and job.
He was very friendly to talk with me for a long time, but I think he was a little shy when he deliveried the speech in front of the audience.
Maybe, his posts can display his opinion better.
I remember his words"be honesy" , a little like google's “Don't be evil” hehe~~~~~~~

Coming back from Hangzhou

I'm in the dorm at present. The past 2 days, I participated in the China Blogger Conference.
I met some well-know person, some of whom I really respect.
And I also hear a lot of speech, discussing and communication.
Especially, a foreigner from Argentina told the story about his own blog.
His expericen of blogging was very interesting.
If u r interested in the blog, u can click here .
His ongoing entries describe multi-cultural stories happend in China at his standpoint.
Reading these posts help u open another door toward Chinese society which is a little diferent from the eastern or western media report.
